Co-op Party Centenary

The Co-op Party is 100 years old this year.

In 1917, the movement set up the Co-operative Party to represent and defend itself, and to promote our values in the wider economy and society.

Conference 2013

The Co-op Party annual conference this year was held in Edinburgh with the new policy discussion debating taking centre stage. Key note speakers included Ed Balls MP.

Co-op Info Fair

During Co-operatives Fortnight the Kent Co-operative Party is holding an Information Fair on 6 July 2013 at The Pulse in Sittingbourne. Info from many co-ops including Co-operative Energy will be available plus local credit union Kent Savers will have a stall at the event.

The Pulse is at 29 Park Road Sittingbourne. 

Support for Deal Foodbank

The Dover and Deal branch has made a donation to the Deal Area Foodbank to help with their work. Co-op Party met with the Paula Turner from the Foodbank when she delivered a food bin at the Co-operative in Park Street in Deal.

Towards co-operative councils


The Co-operative Councils Network has set out their vision to share power and decision-making more equally to achieve the best outcomes for citizens and their communities.

In a joint foreword to an essay collection published today by the network, the 21 leaders of Labour’s Co-operative Councils call for a wider definition of public ownership than is traditionally understood, and the modernisation of the concept of the co-operative.

New policy making

The Kent Party Council was pleased to welcome Bob Harber to our meeting held on 8 December. Bob, NEC member for the South East gave members an update of issues and outlined the policy topics for 2013 that will be debated at national conference in September. These will be:-

  • The Economy
  • Housing
  • Education
  • Transport
  • Culture, Media and Sport
  • Young People
